Cheese Preview Party in Pollenzo, with the Kachupa Folk Band
Albergo dell’Agenzia (Pollenzo), from 7 pm

 The opening Cheese event is being held in Pollenzo, at the magnificent estate of the House of Savoy. The menu will feature dishes prepared by the Albergo dell’Agenzia and young chefs from the “Tavole Accademiche” project of the University of Gastronomic Sciences, pizzas from Renato Bosco and a selection of wines from the Banca del Vino. A Balkan-Mediterranean soundtrack will be provided by the Kachupa Folk Band ( Having shared the stage with major artists such as Vinicio Capossela, Eugenio Bennato, Modena City Ramblers, Casino Royale and Eugenio Finardi, the Kachupa Folk Band will bring a wide musical repertoire to the evening, incorporating the harmonies of far away places and cultures.

Exhibition Opening: Homage to Francesco Guccini by Mirco Ambrogini
Palazzo ex-carceri (Bra), 6.30 pm

The inauguration of an exhibition of works by painter Mirco Ambrogini, dedicated to the Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini. Ambrogini has received numerous prestigious art awards, including the Gold Medal of the Presidency of the Italian Republic, the Guareschi prize and the title of Knight of Montevago, and is known for transposing songs onto canvas. He has previously represented many famous singers from the Italian music scene, including Fabrizio De André, Samuele Bersani and Roberto Vecchioni. The singer Francesco Guccini, from Modena, will also be present on the evening. 

A Chat with Francesco Guccini and Carlo Petrini

Carlo Petrini welcomes his friend and well-known Italian singer-songwriter Francesco Guccini to the stage for a chat, who will also receive honorary citizenship from the City of Bra during the days of Cheese. Moderating this discussion is the cartoonist and advertising and television writer Guido De Maria.

{Tarànta Càöda!}: a new project from La Paranza del Geco

The sounds of the popular traditional southern Italian music company La Paranza del Geco meet the rhythms of the French and Italian Occitan in this new musical performance. Their experiments with folk dances and the fusion of Occitan and Southern Italian music will get visitors to Cheese dancing! 

Slow Food Story, the Film!
Literary Cafè (Bra), 9 pm

If you haven’t seen it yet, this is a unique opportunity to see Stefano Sardo’s documentary, produced by Indigo and Tico Film. Released in the lead-up to Cheese, the film tells the story of the movement that changed our way of understanding food. Commentary from the editor Stefano Cravero, narrator Azio Citi and others who appear in the film will follow the screening in the courtyard of Slow Food Editore.

The Solitude of Bees

Bees have existed for millions of years, long before the arrival of man. But today, they are in danger in many parts of the world. What is happening? And what does the life of chemist Justus Von Liebig and our current farming practices have to do with the current decline of bees. La Solitudine dellʼApe (the solitude of bees) is a musical tale that puts together the pieces of this story, seeking to provide answers, to overcome clichés, to inform and to stimulate a rebellion against an agricultural system based on monocultures and profit at all costs.

The Last Shepherd
Screening of the documentary film with the director Marco Bonfanti

Marco Bonfanti’s acclaimed documentary tells a contemporary tale centered around Renato Zucchelli, the last itinerant shepherd of Milan’s hinterland. Like a friendly ogre, Renato ventures into the center of Lombardy’s metropolis with his flock to meet some children from Milan and tell them about his life and work. L’ultimo pastore (the last shepherd) is the first feature film by Marco Bonfanti, who will speak before the screening and answer audience questions. The young Milanese director previously made himself know with his short film Le parole di Stockhausen, which was pre-selected for the Cannes festival in 2008.
