We’ve introduced a new focus to the by-now classic appointments in the Langhe and Roero’s best restaurants: This year the Dinner Dates will be paying tribute to the local area by showcasing forgotten recipes, with menus inspired by the wise cooking of the past, which could invent, innovate and surprise without wasting a crumb.

We asked the participating chefs to draw inspiration from this year’s theme, and search out dishes that live on in home kitchens but are rarely found in restaurants. They responded with great enthusiasm.
For the most impatient, we have a special preview dinner, prepared by Giampiero and Renzo Vivalda, on Thursday September 19 at the Antica Corona Reale in Cervere.

Also opening their doors during Cheese will be Davide Palluda at the Enoteca di Canale, Massimo Camia at the Locanda del Borgo Antico in La Morra and Marco Forneris at the restaurant La Rei in the five-star hotel Il Boscareto. Of course, there will also be Enrico Crippa at Piazza Duomo in Alba and the Alciati family, ready to host you in the Villa Contessa Rosa, inside the royal park at the Fontanafredda winery. Or let yourself be tempted by the Osteria dell’Arco in Alba and the cooking of Maurizio Dellapiana. Two real treats will bring the program to a close: A dinner prepared by Marco Falco and his son Mattia at La Torre in Cherasco, specially recommended by Slow Food’s guide to Italian osterias, and the always dependable cooking of Maurilio Garola at La Ciau del Tornavento in Treiso.

Don’t miss a dinner that looks beyond Italy, with a chance to sample the super-British cuisine of Jeremy Lee, the chef at Quo Vadis in Soho in London. Lee, who has trained under Simon Hopkinson and Alastair Little, will be cooking at the Castello di Verduno.

Another date for the diary is the dinner celebrating the Alliance between chefs and Slow Food Presidia, which this year will be featuring dishes from around the world. The Albergo dell’Agenzia in Pollenzo, whose kitchen is run by Paolo Livorno, the second-in-command of Ugo Alciati at Guido, will be hosting Italian and international chefs for the Alliance dinner.
